How to Plan for Next Year’s Vehicle Expenses
If you’re considering the lease or purchase of a new BMW model, properly budgeting for yearly expenses is critical. That includes setting aside money for vehicle service, daily driving costs, and emergency situations. Courtesy of Casey BMW, here’s what you need to know about planning for next year’s vehicle costs.
Maintenance and Service
One thing you’ll want to accommodate for in your budget is BMW service. You should plan to cover the costs of routine maintenance, which you’ll likely come in for once or twice during the year. It’s also a good idea to have a service emergency fund set aside to help you cover any major repairs or services that you might schedule during the year.
Driving Expenses
On your regular commute, you’ll be using gas and paying for parking — both factors that should be considered in your budget planning. You can estimate your monthly daily driving expenses based on your average spending, including gas, parking, and replacement fluids like windshield wiper fluid and oil. You should also add monthly insurance costs and financing or leasing bills to this amount. That way, you know exactly what you spend every month in the course of everyday driving.
Emergency Savings
It always helps to be prepared in case the worst happens to your vehicle. That’s why we recommend having some emergency vehicle savings set aside to help you deal with disastrous events like a crash or a wrecked car. Insurance may cover some or all of these expenses, but it’s best to have a lump sum set aside; ask your BMW dealer about GAP insurance that can help if the worst happens.
